What has particle physics contributed to mankind?
Wednesday, September 9th, 2009 | Physics | 1 Comment
I just read up on the Higgs Boson particle, and have always found particle physics interesting, and while I know it’s essential to our understanding of the universe, can anyone tell me HOW it’s been useful to mankind?
Where are the teleporters and the gravity machines and the tachyon emitters (which as we know from Star Trek, are always useful if you can reverse them in a pinch.) Are physicists just wasting taxpayer dollars on this alleged, “research”?
What is the importance of organic chemistry to being a Pharmacist?

Hi, I’m a student currently in the pharmacological chemistry major. I’m taking upper division Organic chemistry classes right now but I have an extremely bad professor. I’m afraid that he’ll leave out important information. I am just wondering how important is ochem is to the profession itself, and pharm degree exams. I know there’s a lot more other chemistry such as physical chemistry and biochem in this major, but how important is ochem related to those.
What physics project can I incorporate on different types of strings, and the sound quality of it?
Tuesday, September 8th, 2009 | Physics | 2 Comments
I am to do a physics project, and I chose it to be on music. I have a device to measure frequencies of the sound waves and an instrument at which I can hook a string to, and change its tension, thus causing a different sound change.
My physics project is to have a set of pre-lab questions, post-lab questions; and atleast one set up of durable, functional, and beautifully constructed equpment (using new equipment in a new way is acceptable as well)
I know the topic at which I would want to base my experiment on, but I do not know what to create of it.
Or if any other ideas involving music and strings, please let me know. I am still undecided upon what I want my project to be and what to build.

How hard is college physics if you never taken physics in high school?
Saturday, September 5th, 2009 | Physics | 4 Comments
My college requires me to take Physics 1 with Calculus (prereqs include a grade of C or better in Calculus 1 and a high school physics course) for the computer science major. I’m not entirely sure if physics is more qualitiative than quantitative but that’s the impression I’m getting
