Dispersing agents function by adsorbing at the surface of the suspended particle and thereby provide a protective layer that hinders particle attraction. :

Dispersing Agent is used to keep the particles from coming out of suspension and flocculation.

Additive, exhibiting surface activity, that is added to a suspending medium to promote uniform and maximum separation of extremely fine solid particles, often of colloidal size.
