Is Biology more important than Chemistry for someone studying to be a doctor?

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009 | Chemistry | 9 Comments

wthrutalkingabout? asked:

I was given Chemistry SL for next year, but the thing is I am not that good at Chemistry. I passed with an 80 average. I have the choice to switch with someone for Biology SL, (which I had a 90 average) , and I am not sure if I should switch. I plan on being a radiologist, and so i would like to know, which is a better course? Chemistry or Biology?

What is the chemistry of cat urine and how does hydrogen peroxide 3% work to get rid of the odor?

Jon G asked:

I learned (and saw for myself) that hydrogen peroxide 3% plus baking soda and a drop of dish soap are an effective cat urine odor removal tool. What is the chemistry happening here and what am I leaving in my carpet after the reaction has finished and dried?

How do you identify a spectator ion in chemistry reactions?

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009 | Chemistry | 3 Comments

myway061 asked:

During the break, I read the packet that explains how to solve chemistry reactions (I take AP Chem).

I memorized most of the special exceptions and other stuff, but I don’t get which are spectator ions.

I thought they are ions that are soluble, but I see some soluble ions represented in the equations.

Only information about spectator ions I see in this packet is ‘Don’t omit any ions unless you’re absolutely sure that they’ll be spectator ions.’

So How do you identify a spectator ion in chemistry reactions?

I did a flame test lab in chemistry a while back, and I have to connect it to real life. How do I do this? We simply noted down the colors of the flame with barium, strontium, calcium, lithium, sodium, potassium chloride.
