What can be done to encourage science-types to become teachers?
Thursday, July 16th, 2009 | Science | 10 Comments
I teach at a state college that has a strong education department, mostly elementary ed. In my state, you cannot *major* in education, you have to pick an ordinary major or an interdisciplinary one. The vast majority of education students major in something other than science (or math, for that matter). For example, for incoming freshmen, there are 41 who are doing an interdisciplinary major, and *none* of those are in the sciences (there is an interdisciplinary science major).
Why is there such a disparity? Why don’t kids who like science go into teaching? Or, why do kids who go into teaching not like science? And what can be done to get more science-types to go into teaching, besides obvious things like increase teachers saleries.
What is more important; science or a temperament and attitude towards science?

What is more important to the self; science or a temprament and attitude of science in self.
Is there any science which can help the self to enable and empower itself with knowledge and wisdom of self to enable and empower the self with an attitude and a temprament of science.
What is this science; where can it be known and studied; how can it be practised. Can this science also help the self to enable and empower itself with knowledge and wisdom of any type and kind.
Can we also use this science to help ourselves for enabling and empowering ourselves with that knowledge and wisdom which had been the cause, purpose, and reason of the existance, presence and working of self and the religion and god of self.
