I’m going to enter into the Young Scientist 3m competition, but i was wondering how you start entering science olympiads across the country. Do you need to be nominated from schools and such. How can I write a physics lab on drag force?

Sunday, June 21st, 2009 | Physics | 1 Comment

sarabeth13137 asked:

My physics professor gave us an assignment: To write a lab that will lead to the discovery of the drag force of an object. We have to use only what she taught us. Does anyone know how to get an equation for the drag force without using density and viscosity? Please let me know if you do, my lab partners and I have searched the textbook and could not find the info anywhere. If someone can help us with a formula, I am sure that we can create the actual lab ourselves. Thank you for you time and help.

I want to work in investment banking/ finance after college, and was wondering if Computer Science would be a good quantitative major for an undergraduate degree.

What percentage of undergraduate physical science majors are female?

Saturday, June 13th, 2009 | Science | 1 Comment

jveldridge asked:

In physical sciences, I’m more or less including engineering, physics, math, chemistry, geology, and computer science.

I’m looking for some kind of national average, rather than data for any one particular school.

Also, sources would be appreciated.

Thanks!

What is the best way to take AP Biology and get a 5 on the exam?

Saturday, June 13th, 2009 | Biology | 1 Comment

James Jones asked:

So far a month of school has passed and my teacher has been through about 7 chapters and 1 labratory. His teaching strategy is providing a powerpoint which we study and take a test on. What is the best way to retain knowledge learned this early in the year to avoid cramming before the exam in May? I’m planning to make flashcards for each chapter and reviewing them once a week/month. Is this a good method or do you recommend something else? I have bought the book “5 Steps to a 5″ by McGraw-Hill as my teacher recommended. AP Biology is my most important class this year and I really want to strive in using my full potentional in mastering the subject.

What ideas are there on building a model rollercoaster for a physics project?

Saturday, June 13th, 2009 | Physics | 1 Comment

jowoods25 asked:

I’m looking to build a model rollercoaster for a physics project. I need help on specific things such as what materials to use, and how I should go about building it in general. I’m not looking for anything perfect- something that I can do in a less than two weeks would work. Website references would really help.

-Thanks
